You should get 7. People say that it's all fanboy hype, but I assure you, it is a good game. Anyone who says 7 sucks has never played it themselves. Trust me. I was a non believer until I played it.

Haven't started 12. Got it as a gift but it's been sitting there collecting dust D:

Fixed it for you.

Short comings:

FF1: Combat system and loop holes may create situations where it is impossible to win a battle, let alone fight. Lack of character development leaves this title dragging behind.

FF2: Do I really need to say more?

FF3: Onion kids, are fat, they don't deserve to save the world.

FF4(II): ... I can't think of any, the ONLY shortcoming was graphics, but for its creation they were top o the line, in short, SE needs to FFIII this one.

FF5: Not enough recognition statewide, story seemed to jump all over the place before it got anywhere.

FF6(III): Once again, only thing is graphics, SE needs to remake it, it'd rock.

FF7: See 4 or 6, rumors of FF7 remake are about, but SE strongly denies them.

FF8: Static story, plot twists that seem to be pointless/easily solved, but then are ignored until the problem intensifies.

FF9: Monkey?! Seriously, all-in-all it was a good game, my only complaint is stylistically, but that is easily over-looked.

FF10: No true class system, while this opened a lot of possibilities, it also made certain characters useless/overpowered. The story, while good, has little to offer in replayability.

FFX-2: Sailor moon?! Wasn't worth the time, I prefered the short movie released to wrap up FF10 to this game.

FF11: Online only, while fun, it really limits the demographic available to play and enjoy this FF.

FF12: I'm sorry, but here goes: Static story, no character development, some characters do nothing to develop the story, gambit system is nice in places, but can easily be abused, the lack of enforced class system will leave many characters in the dark, Vaan's chest looks fake, the story refuses to take any sort of direction/organization, opening a chest will kill your chances of the ultimate weapon, you can't name ANYTHING.

FF13: PS3 :-p

They have some good points, but I'd say 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, and 13 are the best this series has to offer thus far.

Oh, PSP releases for FF1 and FF2 coming in the horizon, they will be sold separately.

They DID remake 5 and 6 recently. It was for GBA though (DESPITE having released FF4 for the DS PRIOR to the 5-6 remakes. Wha?)

The first 3 FFs were THE best. Who cares about the 8-bit graphics and characters that were only there so you have someone to play as? They were, are, and always will be classics. I would love to see them re-released, but maintain their 8-bit glory. It's what made the game what it is now.

And now that you have reminded me, FF 13=INSTA-WIN. Even before it's come out, it reeks of glory. Although I know it runs off of the old ABS system hyped on 5 cups of pure caffeine, I would love to see an online multiplayer using a revamped version of the Dirge of Cerberus battle system. Anti-grav (Or "Gravity Bomb," as they call it) + Sniper rifles and/or Lightning's gun sword= Reason to by the PS3. Maybe even the best game of all time.

I've always just played the FFs for the story, and character development is a major part of the story. FF doesn't offer much that category, FF2 while it is capable of doing so, over looks it, and FF3 touches on it minimally.

I didn't blame graphics for any of those games failings, they simply had a bad level/battle system or a terrible/transparent storyline.

And FF4 and 6 need to be released with awesome graphics, not GBA graphics, otherwise its just the same game, again.

I think the old game's storylines are better. No crazy neo-religious battle against the gods while some becrazed love triangle is going on, and several thousand terms that mean nothing to me. Just four orbs, four warriors, and Chaos.

Nowadays they try to overdo it. If you look up a summary of the plot, it's understandable. Actually playing is different.

A basic plot and a story are two different things. If the main character doesn't develope, its no good.

It was awesome in FFIV, to see your dark knight shed his ways and fight against his dark reflection, to emerge as a paladin.

The stories in IV and VI were simple, but good, and both of them ended with a battle against a neo-god.

Even in the first FF, you fought against whats-his-name, after he had absorbed the powers of chaos into his body to become a god. Problem is, they don't mention that he did it.

True. True. But, y'know, ever since Sephy in ff7 got swarmed with fangirls, Square tends to put all their emphasis in all of it. This may simply be bias since I only own FF 10, though. But honestly, FF DOES have a reputation for confusing storylines.

I'd have to disagree, some stories get jumbled, but if you pay attention throughout it, not to mention interact with a lot of the npc's to get backstory, it makes perfect sense.

FF10 is one of the worst FFs, IMO, though. What really bugs me, is that I know I don't like it, I know some of the smaller reasons I hate it, but I can't remember the really big reason...

To me, it's one of those games where you devote your entire heart and soul into playing it, and then in retrospect you downright hate it. The only enjoyable part I could remember was going against the underwater zombie dragon with aproximately 80 bajillion health, throwing a phoenix down at him, and dealing approximately 80 bajillion damage to him, as well as a one-hit kill XD

I agree. It's totally OWNS like ****. And the main character is a girl! YO! I mean, it can't get better than that! Oh, in Versus, it's a guy in the last if the Royal bloodline or something.... stupic JP onyl cellphones, I won't be able to play Agito.

Don't forget the gun sword. One of the few times you'll see an sub-machine gun in a Final Fantasy game.

I dunno Roll, that seems a little sexist. :-p

Be it guy, girl, animal, human, it doesn't really matter, just as long as they have a compelling story and some BA action scenes, nothing else matters.

The combat system looks pretty awesome though.

And SE has announced that they are working with some cellphone company here in America to release Agito, but I forget who...
